Breaking Barriers in Sports: Graphic Design for the International Conference

The International Conference "Breaking Barriers in Sports," hosted by Sport Evolution Alliance (SEA) in Cascais, marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of gender equality in sports. Held on April 11th at the Auditório S. Vicente in Alcabideche, this event brought together key stakeholders dedicated to advancing the rights of women athletes and promoting gender balance within sports leadership.

Design Approach

The conference was visually defined by a cohesive and fully digital design strategy, driven by the thematic elements of equality and empowerment. The artwork was centered around silhouette designs and vector elements, creating a clean, modern, and impactful aesthetic. This approach allowed the visuals to communicate the core message of the conference—breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity.

Deliverables

All design deliverables for the conference were digital, reflecting the forward-thinking nature of the event. The program, event branding, promotional materials, and presentation visuals were crafted to maintain a seamless and professional look across all platforms. The interactive nature of the event was further enhanced by QR codes, which attendees could scan to access the digital program and navigate through the event materials.

Project Background

The graphics were designed within the framework of two European projects:

Gender Equality Force (GE Force): This project focuses on empowering sports organizations to achieve gender balance in leadership roles.

Voice for Equality and Rights for Women Athletes (V.E.R.A.): Aimed at promoting the rights and value of women athletes across European sports communities.

The design for the conference was not just about aesthetics but also about reinforcing the message of these projects—creating a fair, inclusive, and equitable future in sports.

Conclusion

This project was a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative event, using design to amplify the message of gender equality in sports. The visuals played a crucial role in conveying the importance of breaking barriers and promoting inclusivity, aligning perfectly with the mission of SEA and the European initiatives behind the conference.
